Corus confirms delay to the closure of Workington site

Corus confirms a delay to the closure of its Workington site.  The manufacturing facilities which were due to close in July will continue to operate until 28th August this year. 

Speaking about the closure, Joe Guérin Managing Director, said:

“The reason we have decided to continue rail manufacturing until August is due to strong demand in the first half of 2006.  The 4 week extension will ensure that we can meet the short term increase in demand”

“Employees at the site are working closely with the management team to ensure customer orders are satisfied”

Progress on the Scunthorpe project is on schedule. Major construction work is now complete and installation work is now underway.  The Scunthorpe facilities will be operational by late 2006.
