Corus wins worldwide orders

31 Mar 2005

Corus is supplying orders totalling nearly 10 million Euros to customers across the globe.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd has ordered more than 8,000 metric tons of type 60 E1 grade 1080 heat-treated rails for construction of Line 3 of the Delhi Metro in India.  The deal is worth 4.9 million Euros and deliveries to the port of Mumbai are due to be complete early this year.

Later this year, Workington will be producing more than 4,500 tons of 36 kg rail in 18 metre lengths for Transrail SA for renewal work on the Mali-Senegal line in Africa.  The contract, worth 4.3 million Euros, also calls for the supply of 32,500 type 202 sleepers.

A third rail order is for a railway improvement programme in Tunisia.  The Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Tunisiens (SNCFT) has ordered 1350 tons of rail type UIC 54 and U 33 (46 kg) grade 900 A rail in 36 metre lengths.  The rail is due to be delivered to the port of Sfax during 2005.

Rail Products’ Dominique Chiesura, based at St Germain and in charge of exports, said: “These orders are excellent news for the company.  We have supplied Senegal and Mali before and SNCFT is also a valued customer with whom we have developed a good relationship over the years.

“We beat Austrian and Japanese competition for the contract in Delhi where we are supplying heat-treated rails which are considered to be the highest quality on the market today.”
