Corus opens design office in Poland
03 Oct 2005
Corus has been celebrating the opening of its new design office at Katowice in Poland.
After months of planning and preparation, engineers have been recruited and the design business is up and running. Two teams of locally recruited engineers will offer a multi faceted service encompassing permanent way and overhead line design to enhance network operations.
David Marsden, Director, Railway Infrastructure Services, said "Katowice, in the lower Silesia region, has been chosen due to the location there of other Corus activities and the availability of well-educated and trained staff. The region is the second most populous part of Poland and there is a considerable rail network requiring a sizeable proportion of planned investment for the area."
This news comes as Corus’ investment programme for rail in the UK continues to be on schedule for completion at the end of this year. The £130 million investment at the company’s Scunthorpe steelworks, will see, for the first time, the manufacture of rail up to 120 metres long in the UK. Corus expects to begin to supply rail from its new world class manufacturing facility and new rail service centre at Scunthorpe by the end of 2006.
