Corus has confirmed that it will increase rail prices in the UK and Europe by EUR35 a tonne from January 2006. "This increase in rail prices from January 2006 is predominantly due to the higher costs of raw materials, including energy and rising freight costs." said Gérard Glas of Corus today. Earlier this year, Corus announced a £130 million investment program at the Company’s Scunthorpe steelworks, which will see the manufacture of longer rail up to 120 meters long in the U.K. for the first time. Corus expects to begin to supply rail from its new world class manufacturing facility and new rail service centre at Scunthorpe by the end of 2006. | |
