Corus grooved rail sales booming

04 Jan 2005

Grooved rail produced by Corus is playing a major role in new tramway projects across Europe.

Rail Products at Hayange is expecting to supply more than 25,000 metric tons of grooved rail this year to customers in France and other European nations including Germany, Switzerland and Portugal.

Rail Products Commercial Manager for grooved rail, Christophe Liberge, said: “2005 is a peak year for urban transport projects in France with a total of 12 tramway projects going ahead in cities across the country.

“I am pleased to say that we are supplying 100 per cent of the French market in the field of tramways.  Our reputation for a high quality product and reliable, ‘just in time’ supplies is also ensuring that we continue to win more and more business across Europe and beyond.”

French tramway projects being supplied with Corus grooved rail this year include new lines in Paris, Valenciennes, Mulhouse, Nice, Marseille and Le Mans.  There are also line extension projects at Strasbourg, St Etienne, Lyon, Montpellier, Bordeaux and Nantes.

Other current major export sales of Corus grooved rail from Hayange involve contracts for projects in Rumania, Tenerife, Porto, Geneva, Zurich, Brussels, Munich and Stuttgart.

Hayange’s excellent reputation for grooved rail has been earned through its supplies to prestigious urban transport systems across the globe – including projects in Sydney and San Francisco where the rail has been well proven in service.
