The Corus Rail Products success story in Brazil is continuing apace – with Hayange winning new orders for rail worth more than $14 million.
Brazilian mining company CVRD has ordered 8000 metric tons of rail and a further 6000 metric tons will be delivered to railway company MRS. Both companies make extensive use of their own railway lines for transporting mining products.
Corus beat off stiff competition from Japan to secure the orders for its premium grade of rail.
This latest success in Brazil follows a major contract secured in 2003 to supply 25,000 metric tons of rail – including heat-treated rail – to CVRD.
Corus Rail agent in Brazil, Alex Paz, said: “The Brazilian rail market is booming and I am very optimistic for the future as there is a flurry of approved projects which will require hefty quantities of rail.”
